Amongpatientsabout40%ofpeoplehavemildIBS,35%moderateIBS,and25%severeIBS.Manypeopledon’trecognizeIBSsymptoms.Yet,IBSisoneofthemostcommondisordersseenbyphysicians. NotallindividualswithIBSsymptomsseekmedicalcarefortheirsymptoms.Nevertheless,therearebetween2.4and3.5millionannualphysicianvisitsforIBSintheUnitedStatesalone.IBSisthemostcommondisorderdiagnosedbygastroenterologists(doctorswhospecializeindigestivediseasesordisorders)andaccountsforupto12%oftotalvisitstoprimarycareproviders.
