SurfRockandPsychedelicRock SurfRockhademergedasmoreofaninstrumentaldancemusicinSouthernCaliforniaandhadbeenquitepopularuntiltheBritishInvasiontookoverthemusicscene.However,surfrock'sreputationspreadtowideaudiences,gainingpopularitywithsongsaboutgirls,carsandoftenteenagers.ThemostinfluentialandpopularbandtoemergefromthegenreisTheBeachBoys,withtheirvocalharmoniesandwell-craftedcompositions.WecansaythattheBeachBoysaretheonlybandthathascomeoutwiththisgenreandcontinuedtheirsuccess.OthernotablenamesincludeJanandDean,TheVenturesandTheChamps.
