ENGLISH/IRISHSTANDARDISEDAGESCORE(topleftofoutcometable) Thiswillbebetween69–141anditwillbethestandardisedscorethatthechildachievedintheEnglishpaper,where100isthemean(average). MATHSSTANDARDISEDAGESCORE(middleleft ofoutcometable) Thiswillbebetween69–141anditwillbethestandardisedscorethatthechildachievedintheMathspaper,where100isthemean(average). COMBINEDTOTAL(bottomleft ofoutcometable) Thiswillbebetween138–282 issimplycalculatedbyadding‘English/IrishStandardisedScore’+‘MathsStandardisedScore‘. So,inthepictureexampleabove,thechildgot120inEnglish/Irishand100inMaths,sothereforetheyreceived220(120+100)intheirCombinedTotal. Butdon’tbethinkingthatyourchildshouldbegettinganywherenear282asthisisanabsolutemaximumisalmostimpossible! OVERALLGRADE(toprightofoutcometable) Alongwiththescores,yourchildwillreceiveanoverallgradeof A,B1,B2,C1,C2orD. ThegradeswillbeallocatedonthebasisoftheCombinedTotalscoreandtoofferanindication,thegradeboundariesin2019weregivenasbelow.However,thiswaslastyear’sboundariesandthisyear’smightbewider. Thisparticularelementoftheresults(theCohortPercentile)oftencausessomeconfusionasit’snotatermyou’doftenhearorevenuseduringthepracticetestsinschool. Thebestwaytodescribethisisthatit’sabitlikepercentagesbutpercentagesarebasedonrawmarkswhereaspercentilesarebasedonstandardisedmarks. Youmaybefamiliarwithpercentileswhenyourchild’sgrowthandweightwasbeingrecordedandplottedonthegrowthchartsintheirlittle,redbooks,andyouwould’vebeeninformedoftheirpercentileatthattime. So,let’stakesomeexamplesinsimpletermstotryandunderstandthismore: IfMatthewachieveda cohortpercentileof50,thismeansthathedidbetterthan50%oftheothercandidateswhotookthetest.IfMatthew achieveda cohortpercentileof35,thismeansthathedidbetterthan35%oftheothercandidateswhotookthetest. AgeImpactOnStandardisedScores GLexplainthatanageallowanceoperateswithinthescoringoftheassessmentandtheysaythatit’soneofthereasonswhythey’llreporttheresultsasStandardisedAgeScoresonwhichthegradeswillbebased.Nofurther,detailedinformationisprovided,butGLassureparentsthatincalculatingtheStandardisedAgeScore,theageofthechildistakenintoaccountbutnochildwilllosemarksbecauseofhis/herage.
