History TheMFIwasdevelopedbyAssociatesinProcessImprovement(API)andpublishedinTheImprovementGuidebyLangleyetal.(1996). ThemodelwasadoptedbytheInstituteforHealthcareImprovement(IHI)whoapplieditwidelyinhealthcaresettingsandpopulariseditsapplication. Itiscommonlyreferredtoasthe“IHImodel”,orinsomecasesjustthe“Plan-Do-Study-Act(PDSA)method”. Fundamentalsofthemethod Themodelcanbebrokendownintotwoparts,oftenthoughtofasa“thinking”partanda“doing”part.Thefirstofthoseisasystematicevaluationoftheproblemandidentificationofpotentialsolutionsisachievedbyaskingthreekeyquestions… 1.Whatarewetryingtoaccomplish?
