米蘭-昆德拉(MilanKundera)是捷克裔法國作家，1975年起流亡法國，1981年入籍法國。

他最著名的作品是《生命中不能承受之輕》(TheUnbearableLightnessofBeing)、《笑忘書》(TheBookofLaughterandForgetting)和《玩笑》（TheJoke）。

由於捷克斯洛伐克共產黨政府的審查制度，他的書在他的祖國被禁止出版，這種情況一直持續到1989年天鵝絨革命(VelvetRevolution)這個政府的倒台。

小說的開頭很有啟發性，它說明了在這個速度至上的世界裡，大多數人面臨到的問題。

這種經驗可以寫成兩個存在數學的基本方程式：緩慢的程度與記憶的強度成正比；快速的程度與遺忘的強度成正比。
